A recent commenter, Dee Dee, asked if I knew of the outcome of Rupert, the tiny Muntjac deer that was rescued from his mother's womb. She had been hit by a car.
I told her I'd research and report back. It is with a very heavy heart that I must write that Rupert did not survive very long after his miraculous birth. Tiggywinkles had difficulty finding a formula that would work for him. He only lived a couple of weeks.
The San Diego Zoo fared better with their recent birth of a surprise reindeer in September. He was born to an exhibit housing only female reindeer. The scientists don't believe it was a miracle, however. They believe the mother was unexpectedly pregnant when she arrived in May. Or maybe Santa sent her there. You know, the Reindeer Home for Unwed Mothers.
Meet Boris!
He has a face the Furry Godmother loves!
Boris will be weaned on Christmas Day. The San Diego Zoo is open 365 days a year. He will be on exhibit.
Probably pouting and crying for a binky.
